About The Project

The Eureka Centre Redevelopment

The Eureka Centre for Australian Democracy aims to reinforce the education, historical and civic significance of the stockade site whilst reflecting the new and changing needs of the community.

The  Centre will go through a 2 year redevelopment period centre and open early in 2012.

The project architects are working closely with the project development managers to ensure that the themes of Eureka and the content of the centre are upheld not only in the displays of the centre but also in the very fabric and nature of the building.

This project has a range of stakeholders in Ballarat including community organisations, cultural institutions, and education and tourism groups. Consultation and forging of partnerships with these parties has and will continue to form an important part of the planning and development process.

Residents, special interest groups and individuals will be invited to provide feedback on the overall design and theme of the project through detailed community and sector consultation process.

As the site is of significant heritage value Council will work through a detailed heritage approval process, which will be advertised to ensure Eureka's valuable historic legacy is honoured and enhanced.

The project will generate local employment opportunities. The Project Development Manager has been appointed and work is underway to employ a design team.
